why another blog?
That’s a basic question.
Nowadays blogs are the means infos find their way on the web. There are blogs on any topics and probably there is nothing original in posting a new one.Of course there are some reasons why I decided to spent part of my time in doing that and here you have a list of the main ones – recorded casually.
• A blog is a collection of memories and notes for people and communities. Emails boxes are full of spamming. Personal messages and calls get lost in the overwhelming mess of generic information to which we are exposed.
• A blog is a way of being updated on what you want and when you want. Select a blog as your browser homepage and decide to read – if you wish – the new posts.
• A blog is the fastest way to get information. Some months ago I was talking with Luca S., a colleague of mine, about the 3D sketch technology developed by the Swedish group Front Design (http://www.frontdesign.se). “Sketch furniture” is now on the cover of the Italian magazine “Abitare”- 5 months later. Direct connections are faster and smarter.
• A blog is a connection based relationship: after almost 20 years of working experience and 15 of academic one I met a lot of people. Some of them became part of my family, others good friends, others again colleagues to whom is good to meet even after years. This is primarily a benefit for my private life, of course, but is essential also for having feedbacks on a professional and cultural base. Technology improves the way of keeping contacts avoiding friends to became just a “message in Christmas time”.
• A blog is a sort of never-ending lesson for/from my students. Brainstorming we made a lot of references on web sources often difficult to relate and to point out accurately. This blog is easiest way to list , organize and share them.
• A blog is the way of getting highlights, comment and suggestions on topics sometimes cryptic and difficult to be evaluate at a first sight. Just considering publications. Only in Italy in 2004 there were more than 52.760 new books published, 8-10 % of which is about topics directly involving the interest of designer. Add to this number the foreign ones, which are the majority. Then add magazines (usually monthly). Finally consider that all the above mentioned is just a little thing considering the number of sites and blogs on the web. From this is clear that “selecting is mandatory” and the value of a guide through state of the art events is priceless.
• Then a final consideration. A working blog is cool. Let’s share information and comment! Now it’s up to you!!!
